A rule allows you to make changes to the file name. For example you can add a rule which inserts a text and a specified position and one which removes some text. You can also create and import BFRR rule files

Importing a rule

You can import a rule in three ways. Select Rules > Import Rule, click the Open button (OpenFolder_16x) > Rule (script_16xLG), or click on the arrow beside the Add button (action_add_16xLG) > Import rule (OpenFolder_16x) in the Rules panel

Opening and saving rules

You can open a rule to edit in the rule maker. Click the Add button (action_add_16xLG) in the Rules panel, then click the Open button (folder_Open_16xLG). You can save a rule simply by pressing the Save button (save_16xLG)

Creating a rule

Step 1

Just like adding a file, there are 3 ways to create a rule. You can click File > Add > Add rules, click the New Rule button(), or press the Add button (action_add_16xLG) in the Rules panel. This will open the open file dialog

Step 2

Now we can select a rule. Click on the drop-down box and select a condition. The different conditions are below

Insert

This allows you to insert text at a specified position

Remove

This allows you remove text from the file name. This rule supports regular expressions

Replace

This rule allows to to replace text in file name with another. This rule supports regular expressions

Prefix

This rule allows you to insert text at the beginning of the of the file name

Append

This rule allows you to insert text at the end of the file name

append

Delete

This rule allows you to delete a block of text from the file name

Specify files to apply rules to

You can apply the rule just to a few rules. To do this, tick the checkbox at the bottom of the rule creator and set a start position and item count.

The start position specifies which file to start from, the item count is how many files to apply this rule to

range

You can add a number which increases with each file. See the special rules page for info

Editing rules

You can quickly edit a rule by clicking the Edit button (Edit_straight_32xLG) or double-click on the rule

Removing rules

To remove rules, check the rules in the list you want to remove, then select the remove button (Remove_16xLG) above it
